Ortsfamilienbücher contain genealogical information about families within a specific town, village or parish, sometimes going back to the beginning of written records. Learn about the Emerson History and Genealogy Center’s large collection (almost 20,000!) of these books and how to use them.

These militias were essential for communal defense and fostered unity among families during periods of crisis. Documentation pertaining to your Colonial War ancestor can be found in muster rolls, service records, militia lists, pension records, and bounty land records.
